Abstract
In this paper, a new method for designing grounding grids by means of a genetic algorithm is proposed. The aim being pursued is to minimize the cost of the grounding system, while the safety restrictions required by the standard regulations are met. The utilization of genetic algorithms allows us to build unequally spaced networks that, as is well-known, produce a more uniform surface potential distribution than equally spaced networks
