Abstract
To enhance the detection range of ultra-wideband (UWB) radio frequency identification (RFID) systems, two techniques, i.e., enlarging the size of tag antenna and adopting antenna array, are studied in this paper. A type of UWB antenna that is printed circular-disc monopole antenna (PCDMA) is developed and measured. By employing the two enhancement techniques, the measured improvements of detection range are 1.52 times (1.82 dB) and 1.36 times (1.34 dB) respectively. The measured results are numerically verified by the finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) method.
