  • Abstract
    Aspects of format conversion, improved Y/C separation, backwards compatible transmission, echo cancellation techniques as well as PALplus recording on VCRs have been studied in various European laboratories. Two series of subjective tests and numerous transmission field trials have been carried out to find out the best performing algorithm and to optimise the system behaviour. This paper covers the architecture of the PALplus system and introduces the techniques involved in the various stages of video signal processing
