Abstract :
The author describes how to plan a design process by analyzing the information flow inherent in that design, showing where to use estimates, iteration, and design reviews, and how to schedule the design tasks. He also shows how this flow is used for verification and change control. A computer program, called TERABL, has been developed. This program will allow an engineer to use shunt diagrams and engineering judgment to choose tears and generate a design structure matrix. It allows a number of possible tearings to be examined before choosing the best plan. With the TERABL program, as changes are made to the matrix, one can easily work out new plans
