Abstract
ASSET is a research programme exploring combined multi-beam sidescan and interferometry as a means of improving survey efficiency. This paper describes a flexible hardware architecture that has been developed in support of the project and is now being introduced into commercial products. Both the towfish and surface electronics are reviewed, illustrating how specific problems and design objectives are addressed. Some of the processing techniques used are also briefly discussed
