Abstract
Summary form only given. The institutional strategy of the Brazilian government is to channel federal support for R&D in universities through industry, rather than continuing to subsidize those efforts directly. Therefore, an enormous importance is given to the establishment and improvement of academic-industry relations. However, the federal government is still trying to figure out the best ways to implement its strategy. There have been several scattered experiences of government/industry/academic partnerships in Brazil, some of which have been successful. The author presents a review of these experiences. Barriers and facilitators for implementing the governmental strategy are highlighted. The author also proposes some innovative forms which, according to international experience, may offer good results if adapted to the particularities of the Brazilian institutional environment
