  • Abstract
This paper deals with modelling of the three dimensional magnetic field and both numerical computation and analysis of electromagnetic characteristics of a solid salient poles synchronous motor. The accuracy with which the electromagnetic quantities are computed in a great rate is dependent on the precision of calculations of electromagnetic field distribution in the electrical machine. The 3D-finite element method is very efficient for an accurate electromagnetic field solution. Using a discretization of the three dimensional domain of an electrical machine, including the end-regions where the windings overhangs are distributed, by means of finite element method the magnetic vector potential and its distribution in the 3D-domain is determined. Afterwards, the air-gap flux, the distribution of the flux density at the middle line of the air-gap and magnetic coenergy are determined. Upon that, the main inductance in the air gap of the solid salient poles synchronous motor is computed
