Abstract :
A printed elliptical monopole antenna is proposed for biomedical imaging application. The antenna is designed to operate at 2-9 GHz. For efficiency coupling of the microwave signal to the breast, a coupling medium (canola oil) is chosen having permittivity of 3. This also helps in miniaturizing the antenna size. Glycerin (εr = 9) is used as the breast phantom material. The antenna parameters are optimized to obtain satisfactory impedance match over the required frequency range.
