Abstract :
A broadband bow-tie shaped HF antenna placed above a conducting ground plane with a very low height (around 1 meter) is presented in this paper. Through a simple analysis of a horizontal antenna above a ground plane by the image theory, ferrite materials are utilized to eliminate the destructive impact of the conductive ground such that the broadband characteristic of the bow-tie antenna is maintained. Simulated VSWR of the HF antenna from 6 MHz to 30 MHz is less than 2.5. Radiation patterns of the proposed antenna are suitable for HF applications. Simulated results have been provided to demonstrate the radiation performance of the proposed wideband bow-tie antenna operating in the HF (6MHz - 30MHz) band.
