Abstract :
Research at Sheffield University in HF radar remote sensing has concentrated on measurement of the ocean wave directional spectrum. This has included the development of an inversion technique to solve the integral equation that describes the relationship between the backscatter spectrum and the ocean wave directional spectrum, the development of methods to analyse the solution to provide useful wave parameters and graphical displays, and the development of statistical methods to measure the reliability of the measurements. The latest results from two different systems are presented demonstrating the accuracy, the direction and frequency resolution and the spatial and temporal resolution of HF radar wave measurements
