Abstract
Summary form only given. The authors illustrate the use of analytic hierarchy process (AHP) and its extensions (e.g. DHP, other group decisionmaking approaches, and determinant attribute analysis) in the management of technical, engineering, and R&D oriented organizations. The authors first present the classical AHP followed by a discussion of its extensions to group and consensus-based decisions as well as the identification of determinant attributes. Next, they consider several examples of strategy and policy decisions in engineering management which can be addressed by one or more of these techniques. Finally, they provide directions for future research in multiattribute strategic decisionmaking using the AHP and its extensions
