Abstract
In the paper the effects on the induction motor efficiency determination due to the introduction of the EU Standard IEC 60034-2-1 have been analyzed and discussed. Ten industrial induction motors, from 4 kW up to 70.5 kW with pole number equal to 2,4, and 6, have been tested and a comparison between the efficiencies determined by IEC 60034-2-1 and the old standard IEC 60034-2 have been presented. In addition, the motor efficiencies have been compared with the efficiency classes defined by the EU new set of rules IEC 60034-30. This set of rules, promulgated on 2008, will see the first phase of its application starting on June 2011. The reported comparison have put in evidence that the time table imposed by CE 640/2009 European regulation will represent a complex technological challenge for small and medium size electrical machines makers.
