Abstract
This work describes a novel solution to debug distributed applications in the embedded area. Both software and hardware implementation options of the new approach are discussed. Results of a prototype implementation are presented which prove the fitness of the proposed new debug concept for industrial use. Finally, the paper outlines how the new debug features can be smoothly integrated into a state-of-the-art debug environment based on the open-source tools GDB, OpenOCD and Eclipse.
