Abstract
At the present time in microwave remote sensing the power of the backscattered wave is used. The electromagnetic wave backscattered by a target is a vectorial measurement which contains polarimetric information about the target; therefore knowledge of the polarimetric signature of the sea surface allows some observational parameters to be estimated, ie speed and direction of the wind, dielectric permittivity of the seawater. The polarimetric signature of the ocean as a function of the observation conditions can be formalized by different methods. In this article different types of signatures are proposed and calculated from a classical two-scale surface as sea surface model
