Abstract
A quarter-wavelength-thick unprinted dielectric slab is considered as the superstrate for a resonant cavity antenna (RCA). The behavior of the broadside directivity and radiation bandwidth is numerically investigated. It is shown that by properly choosing the superstrate´s lateral dimensions, the bandwidth of RCA can be enhanced as compared to the classical designs. Computed results predict an increase in 3-dB directivity bandwidth up to 31% and peak directivity of 15 dBi at 11.5 GHz, by employing a single superstrate with permittivity of 4.4.
