Abstract :
Skin areas of office workers can be exposed to electromagnetic fields exceeding levels considered safe in standards. Such levels may cause a feeling of discomfort but are not likely to cause the disorder lipoatrophia semicircularis (LS), the local disappearance of the subcutaneous fat layer, typically in the thighs. The subcutaneous fat layer is a barrier to thermal energy and this basic function is likely to be impaired by local heat imbalance over prolonged time spans, accelerated by mechanical pressure leading to lipoatrophia semicircularis. Guidelines are presented for creating a comfortable electromagnetic, thermal, and mechanical environment to prevent lipoatrophia semicircularis among offices workers
