Abstract :
This paper presents a six-phase motor drive system with the nine-switch converter as the power electronic energy conversion device. The studied system is compared to the conventional solution and it is demonstrated the nine-switch converter is a suitable option for six-phase drive systems, especially due to the maximum frequency applied in the two three-phase output sets of the nine-switch converter. Both symmetrical and asymmetrical six-phase machines are considered in the comparison. Simulated and experimental results demonstrate the theoretical expectations.
