Abstract
This study presents a GIS application to help the analysis of the ground appropriateness to construct the ring road surrounding Sao Paulo Metropolitan Region. A synthetic map was made, through the integration of thematic maps on relief, slope, geology, land use/land cover. The map obtained presents 5 quantitative classes of aptness for the location of this highway, considering two trace alternatives for this highway, presented by DERSA [Sao Paulo State Dept. of Highways]
