Abstract
The switching configuration employed in an ATM network should be designed considering both performance and reliability issues. This paper presents the effects of failures on the performance of multistage configuration employed in an ATM network. Mathematical models are derived in order to compute the performance, the reliability and the performance related cell availability (CA). The models evaluate various multistage switching configuration. The study is focused on multiple path multistage networks that can be derived by altering the well known banyan multistage network
