Abstract :
Reviews underwater vehicles, submersibles or atmospheric diving suits, umbilical or tether management systems and their benefits. This paper presents various umbilical and tether handling arrangements, and in more detail, the various equipment types. In all cases the benefit is improved operational capability for the tethered unit. The possible operational and economic implications of the various options are presented for discussion. The paper is not meant to be prescriptive or exhaustive in its content. It is an overview for consideration of what may improve the operational capabilities of the submersible systems in particular circumstances
