Abstract :
We evaluate the performance of a novel packet access method and compare it with PRMA. It is shown that D-RAMA outperforms PRMA in capacity and access delay. We further introduce some preliminary results for video sources. A future work will address the advantages introduced by dynamic priorities under a mixed services environment. Even though PRMA introduces the novel concept of channel reservation, it is the authors´ belief that the S-ALOHA contention resolution algorithm is not appropriate for maximizing future systems´ capacity. Deterministic packet access methods improve the contention resolution by avoiding packet collisions in requests. Hence D-RAMA should be considered as a serious candidate for access in third-generation systems
