Abstract
This paper analyses the interest of digital beamforming (DBF) for various reference missions, covering multimedia applications. To evaluate interest of digital beamforming, we first define a set of qualitative criteria, allowing to describe both antenna specifications and mission requirements. Mission specifications are then characterized using those criteria. In a third part, relative advantages and drawbacks related to analogue and digital beamforming are analyzed. In the end, this analysis allows to conclude on interest and feasibility of DBF antenna in various configurations.
