Abstract :
This paper describes a Subscriber Communication Management (SCM) system which allows the telephone company to offer a low cost, general purpose data communications system for energy management, alarm monitoring and information services. The modular SCM system is explained, noting functions, features and interfaces. Details of remote units for load control, metering, time-of-day and peak load rate implementation, alarm services and telephone diagnostics are presented. Telephone Central Office equipment for accessing the remote unit is discussed. Utility interface for access to the SCM system is also covered.
