Creating an integrated learning environment. Experiences in product design engineering education

The aspirations of two separate courses, in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Glasgow and at the Glasgow School of Art´s Product Design department, to work together to create a fresh initiative in the education of mechanical design engineers, led to the jointly run Product Design Engineering course. The focus of this paper is the make-up of the teaching and learning environment where the sciences and professional practice of engineering and the skills and approach of product design can be exercised coincidently in the design studio
