Abstract :
The effects of exposure to ultra-wide band (UWB) on aerobic metabolism and the activity in the heart and the lung of rats are investigated. TBA colorimetric methods were used to determine the changes in SOD activity and the content of MDA in the heart and the lung of rats after the rats were exposed to a certain dose of UWB. The results showed that, compared with control group, the activity of SOD in the heart was significantly reduced at 72 hours after the rats were exposed to 100 k pulses (P<0.01). The activity of SOD in the heart was significantly decreased at 12, 24 and 48 hours after the rats were exposed to 400 k pulses (P<0.01), whereas the activity of SOD in the lung was obviously increased at 24 hours after exposure compared with that of the control group (P<0.01). Compared with control group, the content of MDA in the heart was significantly reduced at 48 and 72 hours after exposure to 100 k pulses. The content of MDA in the lung was increased significantly at 24 hours after exposure to 100 k pulses. After exposure to UWB, the activity of SOD in the heart was reduced, but that was activated in the lung, which would in turn affect the content of MDA simultaneously
