Abstract :
SRET is a novel scanning probe technique for measuring micro-galvanic activity existing close to the surface of a corroding or electrochemically active specimen in an electrolyte. Full quantification of this activity can be obtained in a time and spatially resolved manner. Fast data processing and 2D high resolution mapping enable dynamic imaging of electrochemical processes, giving an unique insight into a range of topics including: pitting corrosion; surface coating evaluation; effect of microstructure and finish on corrosion initiation; corrosion under controlled hydrodynamic conditions; inhibitor performance research; battery performance research; behaviour of materials in aggressive environments; and many more related studies. This paper discusses the principles and basis of the SRET measurements and gives an overview of the system hardware
