Abstract :
In 802.11b wireless local area network (WLAN), the performance decreases drastically when co-channel interference among adjacent basic service sets (BSS) occurs. This paper proposes to use different and nearly orthogonal code sets for complementary code keying (CCK) modulation in adjacent BSSs. Using this modified different orthogonal code sets CCK (DOC-CCK) modulation, the adjacent BSSs are separated one from another to a certain extent. Therefore, the co-channel interference among BSSs is mitigated. Simulation results show that the proposed DOC-CCK is more effective than normal CCK to combat co-channel interference in both AWGN and multi-path fading channels when WLAN operates with data rate of 5.5 Mbps.
