Abstract
This paper considers the techniques which may be used to detect winding movement. It describes techniques developed by ERA to measure permanent winding movement and describes a new technique which allows real time measurement of winding movement to be made. The real time (also referred to as dynamic) technique at present has undergone laboratory trials. The next stage is field trials with a view to producing a pre-production prototype instrument
