Abstract
Throughout the World, the requirements for automonous power supplies for telecommunication purposes are many and varied. This paper outlines the criteria to be considered when selecting power plants and identifies two major fields of application. Modular design of Plant and its installation in environmentally hostile conditions is considered and the affect of climate on power systems indicated. Design parameters for an integrated power system, derived from international experience with both modular and conventional power plant, are included. Throughout, the paper emphasises the necessity for a high level of power plant reliability and demonstrates the action taken to maintain an economic equilibrium by optimising integrated design and manufacture with installation, commissioning and operational efficiency.
