Abstract
Whilst each application of re-engineering has achieved a measure of success in its own right, the need to continuously, and seamlessly, support such initiatives has now become widely accepted in many industries. The paper describes the problems of allowing a functionally based structure to become the dominant force in a business attempting innovative product development and new product introduction. It also outlines the ways in which Siemens Plessey has previously tackled this issue, and is now attempting to provide a basis for sustained improvement
