Abstract
Due to environmental problems with PCBs, silicone oil and esters were developed as environmentally-friendly insulating oils. Today, mineral insulating oil is still being used because it offers the best compromise between cost and performance and also because of its compatibility with other materials used in the construction of power transformers. Other synthetic fluids are used for specific applications where their higher price can be justified
