Abstract
A hybrid metal/molecule nano-system has been prepared to explore the ultrafast behaviour of nonequilibrium electrons in heterogeneous low-dimensional media. As a model, gold nanoparticles with diameters of 1.7 to 9 nm wrapped in a shell of sulfate have been chosen to investigate the role of adsorbates on the dynamics of electron-electron and electron-phonon interaction processes by femtosecond pump-probe transient absorption and four-wave mixing spectroscopy. These hybrid metal/molecule nano-systems provide an example of dynamics of electron-electron and electron-phonon interactions either controlled by the size of the nano-system or the nature of chemical species adsorbed on metal surface.
