Abstract :
The authors describe the development and proliferation of a complete process training program that was implemented at Intel during process transfers. Since 1983, ten programs have been developed, with each successive program refined on the basis of experience. The process training program is now the primary means of knowledge transfer from technology development to manufacturing. Its design includes a slide/tape or video section, a study session, and a lecture class; learning is facilitated and enhanced with visual aids, including three-dimensional models generated with advanced computer-aided tools. Pre- and post-test results indicate that knowledge has at least doubled for most groups. The program has been well received at Intel and is used at both its domestic and international sites, where more than 4000 employees have been trained
