Abstract :
Articles on how to extract high voltage power line targets from high resolution SAR images is limited due to too many uncertainties in the data processing. In this paper, some 1m and 3m resolution X-band radar images were selected in China area. This paper analyzed and compared the backscatter characters of transmission towers and lines under HH and VV polarization mode. 3m resolution TerraSAR images were used to analyze the spatial geometry of power lines´ scattering. The result showed that if the angle between the line direction and azimuth direction changed, the line scattering magnitude and location changed accordingly. In 1m resolution VV polarization COSMO images, the right profile structure of transmission tower showed clearer features than TerraSAR image. Power Line scattering magnitude was 3 dB higher under HH polarization than in VV mode. Tower scattering magnitude was 3dB higher under VV polarization than in HH polarization.
