Abstract
This paper describes the principal means of mitigating the electrical risks that are inherent in an electrified railway. Topics covered include preventing access to live electrical equipment, earthing, the types of electrical switchgear, and protective devices that will detect and remove electrical faults. The paper covers a wide range of systems and references more detailed sources of information.
