Abstract
The introduction of a network management system is a process extended over a long period of time. All long term plans are based on forecasts. These forecasts in turn are based on experience of previous development. Because of rapid technological development in the field of network management together with increasing demands for cost effective operation of the telecommunications network, the need for development and introduction of a network management system with standardized interfaces for energy equipment is urgent. With the rapid development taking place in the telecommunications area today, it is of importance that previous decisions/plans do not interfere with future plans. This paper will describe how the Swedish Telecommunications Administration since 1984 has worked at the introduction of automatic supervision of energy equipment, retaining flexibility for the future.
