Abstract :
This paper describes an improved methodology for designing motor controllers that are implemented on embedded digital signal processors (DSPs). Considerable effort has been invested in automating many of the traditional tools that are used for testing and quality assurance. MATLAB and Simulink are used to prove out new designs at the algorithmic level. A simple serial communication link is exploited to create a co-simulation environment where code can be extensively tested on the target DSP. Complete portability is assured using a software wizard that automates the assembly and linking of existing libraries. An emphasis on generality of design and modularity of implementation results in a robust and re-usable process for rapid development
