Abstract
In this paper, the rms responses of the heave and pitch accelerations, the suspension travels, and the tire deflections of a half-car model excited by random road inputs are studied. The road excitation at the front wheel is modelled by a first-order linear shape filter driven by white-noise input; and the temporal correlation between the front and the rear wheels is predicted by a second order Pade filter. It is demonstrated that the effect of tire damping on the root-mean-square responses of actively controlled half-car suspension system can be significant, in particular, at high vehicle velocities.
