Abstract
Oscillator phase noise can be viewed as an equivalent fluctuation of the oscillator´s center frequency. The center frequency is dependent upon the value of the components comprising the oscillator. We propose an approach to determining phase noise which models circuit noise via time varying components, using the substitution theorem, whose values necessarily result in a time varying center frequency. This circuit-theoretic approach to phase noise analysis has not been presented elsewhere. The analysis is applied to a ring oscillator, confirming our mathematics
