Abstract :
This paper describes our attempt at developing Web resources for endangered languages. Creating Web resources for endangered languages is an important method of developing a language environment for those who speak and those who study the endangered languages. In our study, we propose an approach to creating the Web resources for endangered languages. The approach starts with building the ontologies for the endangered languages and creating the mapping to one major language. A framework using the mapping to translate the major language and the endangered language is created. To validate our proposal, we report the process and experiments of creating the Web resource translator for translating Yami (an endangered language in Taiwan) to English using the proposed framework.
