Abstract
The history and usage of separators in conventional lead-acid batteries for Stationary Power Applications are presented. Special emphasis is given to the role of the separator in the sealed lead-acid battery design. Separator materials, design parameters and interpretation of characteristics are delineated for common separator types. Details are provided regarding the influence of the separator on lead-acid battery manufacturing, charging and performance.
