Abstract :
We present a simple heuristic protocol for adaptively adjusting the rate of an error correcting code so as to match the time-varying error probabilities in a slowly fading channel. Channel state is estimated from the past error history. Analysis and simulations indicate excellent performance over a wide variety of channels
