Abstract :
Numerous parameters contribute to the lumen output performance of low pressure inductively-coupled fluorescent RF lamps. Some of these parameters and their effects on lamp performance have been investigated. The variables of interest include lamp fill gas pressure, gas fill type, and Hg vapor pressure (cold spot temperature) as a function of lamp power. A series of measurements and observations concerning these variables has yielded lumen and efficacy data for G30 and A23 lamp geometries. The optimization of lumen output for the A23 lamp as a function of lamp power was explored. Experimental results were verified with absolute lumen measurements when possible. Optimized lumen outputs of ~3100 lumens @70 LPW and ~2000 lumens @80 LPW were obtained in the A23 lamp geometry. The lumen output of the unoptimized G30 lamp geometry was also explored. The temperature profile of a space fixtured A23 lamp as a function of lamp power was measured, and its implication is discussed. The issues of lamp maintenance and life are addressed and data presented
