Abstract :
This paper describes the commercial PCS teleservices available for a number of military requirements. The GMPCS features for military requirements are in the outer rings in the layered military security “bulls-eye” including core requirements in the middle, surrounded by general-purpose communications. Additionally, the GMPCS commercial business model is shown to be applicable to military procurement, as well. Issues surrounding the security overlay that are often argued as a necessary addition to use of commercial systems are explored from the perspective of Globalstar´s decentralized network nodes and CDMA air interface. The paper offers operational procedures and additional service provision extensions that would further enhance the value to military communications
