Abstract :
Micro-grid is required to be able to operate in the grid-connected mode and the autonomous mode. One of the key functions for such a system is to realize the seamless transition between the two modes. This paper investigates the impact of the islanding detection time on the mode transition of inverter-based micro-grid. First, an inverter-based micro-grid is modeled in the simulation environment of Matlab/Simulink. The inverter interface controls for the two operation modes are also designed in the simulation model. Second, the micro-grid transition transients from the grid-connected mode to the autonomous mode are simulated for different islanding detection times. Third, the main factors affecting the micro-grid islanding detection time are studied to identify the contribution of the micro-grid components on the mode transition.
