Abstract :
It is very important to accurately locate the position when lightning strikes on the distribution feeder. However, due to the complexity of feeder´s structure, it is difficult to do it. This paper is focus on the method of multi-terminal location which can eliminate the impact of uncertain wave velocity. The method applies traveling wave theory and wavelet transforms theory for location. First, we must sample the traveling wave at main ends of the line when lightning strikes on the distribution feeder. Then, we use wavelet transforms to extract the characteristic points of the wave front signals in order to accurately measure the arrival times of the traveling wave fronts. Third, we should analyze and compute the location on the basis of the network structure of distribution feeder. This is the most important step to locate because effect of the wave velocity is eliminated in this step. At last, A large amount of EMTP contrasting simulation results on the CHI TANG 828 Line prove multi-terminal location is more effective for locating the point of lightning strike than double-terminal location in the distribution network and the error rate is below 1.02%.
