Abstract
DS-CDMA is a candidate air interface for the next generation of mobile radio systems and as such has been the focus of a great deal of attention. There are many contentious issues relating to its performance and implementation and the worldwide debate continues over which access technique is the most suitable to take mobile radio into the 21st Century. In the paper, a DS-CDMA field trial system is described briefly, focusing in particular on the downlink design. The aim is to improve the general understanding of a DS-CDMA system and the problems facing system and network designers in its implementation
