Abstract :
Free Probability Theory (FPT) portrays a strong link between free probability and eigenvalue distributions of large random matrices. The FPT can be utilized to the digital communication systems that can be modelled by the random matrices. Especially, the asymptotic behaviour of the systems can be described by the FPT. In this paper, a new FPT detection scheme for spectrum sensing is proposed for a multiple-input multiple-output cognitive radio system. The essence of this FPT detection method is to separate the real signal from the noise background by exploiting the asymptotic free behaviour of large random matrices. The results show that new FPT detector performs better than the traditional energy detector.
