Abstract
In this letter we present a new fully index-guided tapered laser design showing a balance between the competing mechanisms modifying the far-field divergence at high operating powers. Simulations and experimental investigations of this device show a low divergence and a stable far-field along a high range of operating conditions, together with negligible astigmatism at high power.
