Abstract
Significant improvements in the performance and availability of the service provided by VSAT terminals can be achieved if a small array of Ka-band VSAT terminals, distributed around a city, are interconnected using a metropolitan area network (MAN). Each VSAT is connected to a MAN via a conventional network router. The paper presents a novel approach to the configuration and control of such a network, using the TCP/IP protocol suite, to provide what is commonly known as a wide area diversity network
